Same Thing, Only Different

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I like chocolate and hazelnuts. So, it’s a no-brainer that I love nutella. A teaspoon of that is almost as good as eating one of these. Almost. Better, when you don’t even have any Belgian chocolates in sight. 😉

I took an old favorite muffin recipe, which I have modified before and made yet another version.

Orange Nutella Surprise Muffins

2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. grated orange peel (orange extract can also be used)
1/2 tsp. salt

1 c. plain yogurt
1/2 c. butter or margarine, melted
1 egg, beaten

nutella spread

1 Tbsp. sugar

Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease or paper line 12 muffin cups.

In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, orange peel, and salt. In small bowl, combine yogurt, butter, and egg until blended. Stir into flour mixture just until moistened.

Drop a tablespoon or so of batter into each muffin cup, put a teaspoon of nutella on top, cover with remaining batter. Sprinkle remaining 1 Tbsp sugar over tops.

Bake 15 to 20 minutes for regular sized muffins, 20 to 25 minutes for giant sized muffins or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pan. Cool on wire rack.

Makes 12 regular muffins or 6 giant muffins.

Some of the muffins just had a ribbon of chocolate through the middle; this one was a little different. It reminded me of Bob Ross . . . and here’s a happy little muffin! I thought it looked like it was smiling. If you make these and eat them, you’ll smile too!

  1. These look delicious! I think when I have nutella in the house I eat more of it by the spoonful than I do actually in or on anything…

  2. I have never taste Nutella (: So many people seem crazy for it—what’s the best source for a purchase?

  3. Brilynn — I’m right there with you, which is why I don’t buy it often! 😉

JEP — I buy it in the grocery, in the same area as the peanut butter but it seems like it’s always on the top shelf, not at eye level.
