It’s One Of *Those* Parties — With A Girl In The Cake!!

Wednesday our little Thing 2 turned 7 and tonight is the birthday party and ‘sleepover’, misnomer that it is. Now this girl has been having ‘Princess Parties’ for most of her birthdays b/c that’s the kind of girl she is but this 7 year-old season is about the time all girls want one of *those* cakes. You know the ones — the kind with a girl in the middle. I made one a couple of years ago for Thing 1:

This is what the process looks like, first Barbie is wrapped in plastic (yes, the new Barbie, while lacking the silicon implants the earlier editions had, does have a purple flower tatoo on her middle):

I baked a cake in my Pampered Chef bowl, cut a hole in the middle and inserted Barbie:

After a package of cream cheese, a stick of margarine, the greater portion of a bag of powdered sugar from Sam’s Club, some almond extract and some food coloring . . . oh, a couple of hours with decorator bags and tips, you can get something like this (and yes, the space from the top of the cake you see above to the bikini top is ALL frosting!):

I actually like the one from a couple of years ago better, but maybe in another 5 years I’ll be better at making these!! πŸ˜‰

  3. You could have used the baby!

  4. MN — ummm, yeah, sure . . . πŸ˜› She’s even taller than Barbie, I’d have to use *two* sacks of Sam’s Club 10X sugar!!! πŸ˜€

This was a first . . . more than one kid tonight said the cake had *too much* frosting . . . kids don’t complain of that often . . . although there was one girl that ate all of hers and some from the girls on either side of her! πŸ˜‰

  5. too much frosting?

  6. I think it’s hilarious how many people commented in person last night and this morning about seeing the cake — here. *waves to all you lurkers* Unfortunately my camera stopped working. I’m guessing a small helper dropped it or something — I didn’t get any pictures during the party 😦 Otherwise, I’d post a pic of the aftermath — about half of the cake is eaten and you can clearly see the two inches of frosting around the top of the cake.

  7. […] 3 requested a Barbie cake for her 6th birthday, at the end of May. I have posted earlier about the Barbie Cakes I made for Tartlets 1 & 2 for their respective 7th birthdays, and last year I made 14 Polly […]
