This is great — just found out that this torte was the Daring Bakers challenge. As I told An Amateur Baker in Sidney, whose blog I just found and who also took part in the challenge, this was my husband’s favorite cake from childhood, and I had Pekara Bakery make one for his birthday last month.

Your version looks gorgeous, and I love the fun with caramel aspect.

That is why I love pasteurized egg product. I only buy that these days. I don’t actually eat the eggs plain, I just use them in baking, so it is not a huge deal.

Seriously though, I used to lick the spoon all the time and I don’t think I have ever gotten food poisoning from that.

I’ve looked up your recipe several times and made them when I get an urge for truffles. One time I looked it up at work and made them for Valentine’s Day, but work won’t let me post on blogs, so couldn’t write and say thanks.
Sarah found a recipe for me in a book called Rawvolution where the main ingredient is ground nuts along with agave and cocoa. I may try some combination of the two recipes tonight because the cheese ones seem softer in texture. We are still dealing with allergies. Sarah is on my diet now too – to hopefully help deal with her thyroid condition and weight.
Hope all is well with you guys and that you had another great trip to the beach. It’s hard to believe we’ve been gone over a year.
